Loneliness
While continuing to read The Awakening I noticed how Edna feels alone and different from the other characters at Grand Isle. For example whenever Edna goes to the beach she decides to swim away from everyone else. The sea could be an example of what loneliness is like for her. She feels that she has to swim away from everyone else. The quote “Times may have changed, but there are some things that are always with us - loneliness is one of them.” by Laurie Graham really reminds me of what Edna is going threw. I think that no matter what happens to her she will deep down always not feel complete. Like there is something more or different that she wants. In my opinion I think she should do whatever it takes to feel complete and not be lonely anymore.

I agree when your saying that Edna is alone and different. You can certainly tell that she does not belong in the society that she lives in. Also I don't think that she should do whatever she needs to, to feel complete because she has to take care of the people around her, and she cant always get her way.
ReplyDeleteYou make a great observation. Anyone can tell she wants nothing to do with where she is at. She does not fit in with any of the other ladies in town. They are too proper and strict for the way she wants to live her life. She is left feeling alone. She can't even talk to anyone about it cause she would just be criticized. Eventually she is going to have to adjust to their way of living or she's just going to keep struggling with it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the sea is a metaphor for her loneliness. In fact, I blogged about that connection as well, you should check it out. Great real world connection by using that quote from Laurie graham. Outstanding reading so far, keep it up bro.
