It is
absolutely ridiculous if your husband even has to think about doubting your
parenting skills. In The Awakening, Mr. Pontellier doesn’t feel great about the
way Edna mothers her children. For example, one night when he comes home from
the club and Edna is half asleep, he goes to check on the kids and finds out
that his son, Raoul, has a fever. I find it hard to believe that Edna “didn’t believe”
that he had a fever and tells her husband that he was fine when he went to bed.
As said in the book, “He reproached his wife with her inattention,
her habitual neglect of the children. If it was not a mother's place to look
after children, who’s on earth was it?” (Chopin 7). I agree with Mr. Pontellier
on this one; Edna is being a horrible mother and role model to her children. It
even seems as if she does not care for her family at all.
this is true she doesnt have any parenting skills to her name and she makes that very clear in the book. she makes being a mother seem horrid. it almost makes me want to not have kids. lol!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I feel like shes the kind of person who shouldn't have kids because she's not treating them as well as she should be in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree that her husband or any husband for that matter should not judge his wife as to what type of mother she is, but i also agree that Edna is not fit to be a mother whatsoever. She for one, didn't even want children and she also does not know how to be a role model or a mother to them

ReplyDeleteI think you're right, Edna, in a way, neglects her children. I feel like her dislike for her husband makes her dislike her children, because they're apart of him. She probably wouldn't of had children if it was up to her.
ReplyDeleteI think Edna does somewhat not care for her children, but I don't think it's her fault exactly. Her children were something that was forced upon her. Also, not to mention Mr. Pontillier was drunk when he "diagnosed" Raoul with a fever.
