Well with no surprise at all my theory of the lady in black that is always associated with the couple cuddling by the beach was correct. I previously stated that this could foreshadow something like death or a tragic outcome, and lo and behold look what happened, Edna takes her life by drowning herself in the ocean. Now Edna has grown fond of the ocean over the course of the novel, so I suppose that if she were to take her life, drowning in the ocean would be most appropriate. This reminds of a book I read in 8th grade called," The Secret Life of Bees," by Sue Monk Kidd. In that book, a 14 year old girl runs away to a black family who sells honey, and the family is comprised of three sisters, May, June, and August. Now, throughout that book, we knew from the get go that May was a little unstable, and one day when all the residents of the household got into a big fight, and May stormed out of the house. They all went looking for her, and found that she had put a large rock on her chest and jumped into the nearby river near the house. Tragic demise for both, but," The Secret Life of Bees," is a good book nonetheless.
OMG Mo i made the prediction about the Lady in Black too!! I always knew something was up with her. I like how you connected it to "The Secret Life of Bees." BTW, I think we read that book in 7th grade, not 8th, but i'm not entirely sure. Edna's suicide reminded me of something, but i couldn't remember what. But it was this book!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, nice observation! I didn't really put much thought in about the lady in black/ the couple so I'm glad you brought this to my attention. Second off, thanks for spoiling that book for me I've been wanting to read it haha.
ReplyDeleteNice prediction, I agreed with you when you observed that. It makes sense that Edna's fascination with the ocean ended in her death. Also, nice connection to that book, never read it though.
ReplyDeleteNice prediction Mo, I thought about that while reading. It does seem fitting that Edna would die in the ocean. Keep up the good work.
