The End
In the final chapter of the book Edna does the unthinkable. She decides to take her own life. She goes out into the the ocean she loves so much and drowns. Even after all that she went through she still felt like she was trapped or shackled to society and how people expected her to do things. Suicide was neither a failure or a success to her. It was neither because it had two different outlooks. It wasn't a failure because she was free from her life of imprisonment. It wasn't a success because even in death she is still trapped. Sure she is free to do what she wants in the afterlife but she can't explore the rest of what life has to offer. Another way people can look at her suicide is like a rebellious sort of action. She didn't want to be tied down to leonce and her family with its holding her down. It shows if I can't have my freedom then life and worth living. She decided if she can't have what she wants then she would deprive everyone she knew especially her controlling family of her life. If you look at it from a different point of view it is kind of ridiculous to kill yourself because you can't have any freedom. She could have done a multiple of things other than take your own life. Instead she could have moved to a different place and have runaway. There she could have started a new life full of freedom and whatever she wanted to do. But instead she felt like ending her life was the best way to be free. Here is a picture of what she loved the most. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&ved=0ahUKEwim4ZqHvpXLAhXLWT4KHZOlBlcQjB0IBg&url=http%3A%2F%2Ftidalvisionusa.com%2F15-crazy-facts-that-prove-the-ocean-should-be-everyones-new-obsession%2F&psig=AFQjCNEAhd7xoCzqK6XyC7X4vhlrHNYhhA&ust=1456577999507217&rct=j

I agree with the fact of she did it to be free. She could no longer live by other peoples' rules. I think it was an act of cowardice, but i sort of sympathize with her.
